Continuing with EC’s pre-professional years, we get an indication of the listening tastes of the young Declan. The influence of Van Morrison on the early vocal style of Elvis Costello (still known as Declan MacManus, and later D.P. Costello is clearly evident on early Flip City recordings, such as at The Brown Cow, London Nov 1975, where Flip City performed ‘Grow Too Old’ from volume 1 and also tracks 3,9,11, & 21-23 from this selection.

The R n B classic ‘Money’ was the last song ever performed live, by Flip City http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Money_%28That%27s_What_I_Want%29
and the mildly prophetic ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ was performed solo in early 1976 at a gig with his father, Ross.

In more recent years, Elvis has returned to several of these songs again.
