VOLUME 23 Mingus Thingus


Elvis began a long term association with Mingus in 1990, with the recording of “Weird Nightmare”. Since then, at the request of Charles’ wife Sue, he has written lyrics for existing Mingus compositions and appeared in concert with the Big Band in 1997 and with The Charles Mingus Orchestra in 2001.

1,2,10 Instrumentals performed by The Mingus Big Band in 1997.
11 Was the first Mingus composition recorded by Elvis in 1990 for a tribute album.
3 First performed with The Mingus Big Band in 2001, was released with lyrics written by Elvis on “My Flame Burns Blue”
4 This Billy Strayhorn melody was the basis for the Elvis’ track “My Flame Burns Blue”.
